Pāpāmoa Surf Life Saving Club patrols the beach between the flags on weekends and public holidays through summer. Swim between the flags.

Touch Rugby

Summer season · Weekly

Social and competitive touch rugby at Gordon Spratt Reserve and other venues through the Tauranga Touch Association summer season.

Parkrun

Every Saturday · 8:00am

Free, timed 5km run/walk at various Tauranga locations. Check parkrun.co.nz for the current Pāpāmoa area event location and registration details.

Weekly - check library for current schedule

Pāpāmoa Library runs regular children’s story time sessions. Check the library schedule or Tauranga City Libraries website for current days and times.

Beach Yoga

Regular - varies by provider

Several yoga instructors run regular beach yoga sessions on Pāpāmoa Beach through summer. Check local Facebook groups and noticeboards for current schedules.

Fishing Competitions

Throughout summer

Pāpāmoa is a popular surf casting and kontiki fishing location. Competitive fishing events run throughout the summer at the eastern end of the beach. Check local fishing clubs for schedules.

Matariki long weekend: public holiday Friday 10 July

Matariki falls on Friday 10 July this year, giving Pāpāmoa a three-day weekend in the middle of the school holidays. Most public facilities close on the day; normal Friday kerbside collections shift as per council holiday schedules.

School holidays on now, Term 3 starts 20 July

The winter break runs 4 to 19 July for all Pāpāmoa schools. Term 3 begins Monday 20 July and runs through to Friday 25 September.

Pāpāmoa Hills: more tracks back open

The Summerhills Track reopened 3 April 2026 after the January landslips, and the Pūraho and Karangaumu tracks are now open again (Karangaumu via an alternative route). The Pāpāmoa, Te Ihu o Ruarangi, Te Hōuāwe and Te Kaingapākura tracks remain closed, and work on a new carpark connection track began 15 June. Check BOPRC before visiting.

TCC consulting on new dog bylaw changes

Tauranga City Council opened public consultation in March 2026 on proposed changes to the Dog Management Bylaw. Proposed changes include on-lead requirements on the Pāpāmoa Shared Path, bans in cemeteries and skate parks, and licensing for walking more than four dogs at once.

Mauao (Mount Maunganui) remains closed after fatal landslide

Six people died on 22 January 2026 when a catastrophic landslide from Mauao struck the adjacent campground and hot pools during record rainfall. All Mauao tracks remain closed. The Mount Hot Pools are closed with no reopening date confirmed. The village strip, beach and businesses remain open.

AIMS Games 2026 registrations open

Registrations for the Zespri AIMS Games 2026 opened on 20 March 2026. The event runs 5–11 September in Tauranga. Beyonder is the official accommodation partner. Book early - accommodation across Tauranga and Pāpāmoa fills fast during Games week.
