One of New Zealand’s largest surf lifesaving clubs with nearly 700 members aged 5 to 80. Patrols Pāpāmoa Beach and Pāpāmoa East each summer. Junior Surf Programme for ages 5–13, Rookies (12–13) and competitive surf sports. Consistently in the top 10 nationally for patrol hours and rescues. Bay of Plenty Club of the Year 2023.

  • Mount Maunganui Aquatic Centre - the nearest public pool, approximately 15 minutes from Pāpāmoa. Indoor and outdoor lanes, learner pools and waterslides.
  • Tauranga Aquatic Centre - approximately 20–25 minutes from Pāpāmoa. Indoor 25m and 50m pools, learner pools.
  • Pacific Park Holiday Camp - on-site pool for guests only (not public access). Heated outdoor pool within the holiday park complex.
  • Pāpāmoa does not currently have a dedicated public pool within the suburb itself.

  • Welcome Bay Hot Pools - geothermal mineral water pools in Tauranga, approximately 15 minutes from Pāpāmoa. Open to the public. Popular with families and couples.

Joining Pāpāmoa Surf Life Saving Club

  • Junior Surf - ages 5–13. Introduction to beach and ocean safety, basic surf skills and team activities.
  • Rookies - ages 12–13. Bridge between Junior Surf and senior membership.
  • Competitive surf sports - for ages 10 and up. Board paddling, swimming, beach sprint and ironman events.
  • Volunteer patrol members - must be 14 or older. Training provided.
