Plans revealed
Bluehaven Group announces The Sands as a billion-dollar town centre development in Pāpāmoa East - described as a ‘once in a generation’ opportunity. Whitiora Medical Centre opens nearby.
2022
New World & Mitre 10 announced
New World confirmed as anchor supermarket tenant (June). Mitre 10 MEGA confirmed as second anchor tenant (December). Civil and preparatory works begin on site.
2023
Construction begins
Building consent issued ($10.5m). Construction begins on Stage One including New World, Anytime Fitness and the food precinct. Anytime Fitness confirmed as gym tenant.
2024
Stage One opens
New World The Sands opens November 2024. Anytime Fitness (largest in Tauranga), Pablo and Pizza Hut open as part of Stage One. Over 150 jobs created from Stage One alone.

Stage Two underway - Mitre 10 MEGA opening 2026
Stage Two construction officially underway. Mitre 10 MEGA Pāpāmoa under construction with doors expected in 2026. Pāpāmoa East Interchange also opening 2026, improving SH2 access.
