️ About Tauranga
Tauranga is a harbour city on the Bay of Plenty coast in the North Island of New Zealand, approximately 204 kilometres south-east of Auckland. It is the urban centre for a region that includes Mount Maunganui, Pāpāmoa, Te Puke and the Western Bay of Plenty. The city has grown rapidly over the past two decades, driven by lifestyle appeal, a warm climate and expanding port and logistics industries.
The Tauranga Harbour - Tauranga Moana - is one of the largest and most sheltered natural harbours in New Zealand and was of immense strategic importance to the iwi of the region, particularly Ngāi Te Rangi. The 1864 Battle of Gate Pā, fought near the city centre, was one of the most significant engagements of the New Zealand Wars. The city's Māori heritage is visible in its place names, marae and cultural institutions.
Today Tauranga is known for its beaches, café culture, outdoor recreation and growing arts scene. The CBD has undergone substantial regeneration investment and the city continues to attract new residents from across New Zealand and internationally.
