Xanadu Book Exchange is the only warehouse-scale second-hand bookstore left in the Bay of Plenty. Owner Briar Simons has run the shop from 2C Ashley Place for years, building a stock of around 10,000 books at any given time. Books are colour-coded by price band - not a single one costs more than $5. The shop also buys quality used books, paying cash or store credit, which means the stock turns over constantly. Beyond books, Xanadu stocks DVDs, CDs, vinyl records and jigsaws. It is the kind of shop that rewards browsing: the fiction, non-fiction, NZ history, craft and children’s sections all have genuine depth. Parking is available directly outside on Ashley Place.
Paper Plus at Pāpāmoa Plaza stocks new books alongside stationery, gifts, cards and magazines. A reliable first stop for new titles, children’s books, puzzle books and gift books without a trip to Tauranga. Also stocks calendars, diaries and educational resources.
