The main after-hours walk-in option for Pāpāmoa residents. Currently the only in-person option between 8am and 8pm. After 8pm, Tauranga Hospital ED is the only option. Expect a wait during peak times.
You don’t need to be enrolled. If your GP is fully booked and your issue isn’t urgent enough for 2nd Ave or hospital, a same-day telehealth appointment is often the fastest and simplest path.
Save this number now. Healthline is the single most useful call you can make when you’re unsure about a health concern. Trained nurses assess your symptoms over the phone and tell you whether to call 111, go to hospital, visit a clinic, or manage at home. It’s free and available any time.
The nearest public hospital to Pāpāmoa and the only option for serious emergencies after 8pm. For non-life-threatening concerns that can wait a few hours, 2nd Ave or telehealth will generally be faster than the ED during busy periods. If in any doubt, call 111 or Healthline first.
The part charge applies to roughly half of all callouts. The actual cost of sending an ambulance is over $1,000 - St John relies on donations, fundraising and memberships to cover the rest. You will be charged even if you are treated but not transported. Note: a good reason to consider a St John Membership for your household.
For non-urgent matters only. Do not use this number instead of 111 in a medical emergency - always call 111 if someone’s life may be at risk.
Pāpāmoa’s volunteer firefighters respond to the full range of emergencies alongside St John and Police. As a totally volunteer brigade, they hold down day jobs and respond on pager. The station covers Pāpāmoa and surrounding areas as part of Fire and Emergency New Zealand.
Coastguard Tauranga is one of the primary resources dispatched by Police and the Rescue Coordination Centre of New Zealand for marine incidents on Tauranga Moana. Their volunteers rescue over 450 people per year. If you fish, surf, kayak or boat from Pāpāmoa Beach, knowing how to reach them could save your life.
For non-urgent health concerns, always try your enrolled GP first. Pāpāmoa has several medical centres with walk-in clinics for enrolled and non-enrolled patients. Some offer same-day appointments online.
