Questions about urgent health in Pāpāmoa
Is there an after-hours clinic in Pāpāmoa?
As of late 2024 there is no walk-in after-hours clinic in Pāpāmoa. Consult365 opened at 3 Palm Springs Boulevard in January 2024 but closed in November 2024 - it saw 10,000 patients in under a year but needed double that volume to be financially sustainable, and wasn’t eligible for the capitation funding that GP practices receive. The Government announced a new 24/7 urgent care service for Tauranga by mid-2026. Bay of Plenty MP Tom Rutherford is pushing hard for it to be located in Pāpāmoa. Until then, the nearest walk-in option is Accident and HealthCare at 19 Second Avenue, Tauranga (8am–8pm daily, including public holidays).
How much does an ambulance cost in NZ?
From 1 July 2025, the Hato Hone St John part charge is $125 for a medical emergency callout. This applies to about half of all callouts. If your injury is accident-related and occurred within 24 hours, ACC covers the full cost. You are charged even if the ambulance attends but does not transport you. A St John Ambulance Membership covers your entire household for less than the cost of one callout - worth considering for families. Never let the cost stop you calling 111 in a genuine emergency.
How far is Tauranga Hospital from Pāpāmoa?
Tauranga Hospital at 829 Cameron Road is approximately 18km from central Pāpāmoa - around 20–25 minutes drive via SH2. The Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Enter via the main entrance on Cameron Road. Over 1,000 car parks are available on site including mobility parks near the main entrance.
What if I need urgent care after 8pm in Pāpāmoa?
After 8pm your options are: call Healthline (0800 611 116) for free advice on whether you need hospital; use Practice Plus telehealth (open until 10pm weekdays, 8pm weekends); or go to Tauranga Hospital Emergency Department at 829 Cameron Road, open 24/7. For a life-threatening emergency at any hour, always call 111.
